Motivational Interviewing Webinar
Motivational Interviewing is an evidence-based method of communication for supporting behavior change. This introductory webinar session introduces you to the concept and principles of Motivational Interviewing. The webinar will build upon participants' interviewing and counseling skills by teaching how to make a realistic assessment of a client's motivation for change. It outlines models to increase effectiveness with clients who are resistant to change. You will learn specific techniques to help clients explore and resolve ambivalence in order to make behavior changes.
What You Will Learn
- Develop a high-level understanding of how evidence-based strategies can strengthen your current skill set and challenge perceptions on how to effectively motivate individuals.
- Introduction to helping individuals increase awareness of the potential problems caused, consequences experienced and risks faced as a result of the behavior(s) in question, while helping individuals envision a better future and become increasingly motivated to achieve goals.
- Develop a basic understanding of the strategies to improve client retention, compliance and effectiveness in substance abuse treatment.

Meet the Trainer
Amy Warren, CRADC, MISA II, has been with Gateway Foundation for more than 20 years. In her current position as a Clinical Supervisor at Gateway Foundation Swansea, Ms. Warren provides substance abuse counseling to both adults and adolescents. Ms. Warren received her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University and was trained as a trainer of Motivational Interviewing from Dr. William Miller and Dr. Therese Moyers.
