Accessible Via Train for Families in Northern Illinois
Our Carbondale drug treatment center is easily accessible with daily Amtrak train service to Carbondale from Chicago's Union Station and surrounding suburbs, including Glenview, Naperville and Joliet. The trip from Chicago to Carbondale takes approximately 5 hours and 30 minutes, and we provide shuttle service from the Carbondale Amtrak Station to the Gateway Foundation Carbondale Treatment Center. Meet the Carbondale Staff
As Executive Director, Katie Stout leads the staff and clinical team at Gateway Carbondale. Katie ensures all clients are treated with the most innovative and customized care. Katie has been working in the behavioral healthcare field since 2004, and became the Executive Director at Gateway Carbondale in 2016.
For Katie, the most rewarding part of her job is, "helping clients reengage with family and get back to living life according to what they value." She is thankful to work with counselors who dedicate their lives to walk besides people struggling with addiction.
Katie completed her undergraduate studies in Human Services, and earned her MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2014. She joined Gateway after directing an eating disorders facility in Nevada for 12 years. Though the facility was ED specialized, Katie says that she has always had clients with co-occurring substance abuse disorder.
Adolescent Program Clinical Supervisor
"Watching an individual change, succeed and grow through treatment is very motivating," says Gaia McVey, Adolescent Program Clinical Supervisor at Gateway Carbondale. With a wealth of experience in substance abuse treatment, she works closely with her team at the Adolescent Male Residential Program.
"We are flexible in our individualized treatment planning and approach for adolescents. We use a great deal of interactive activities in our group counseling sessions to help teens learn new skills in a variety of ways," explains Gaia. Gaia has been a member of the Gateway's clinical team since 2000.
She obtained her Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the Rehabilitation Institute at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.
Dr. Chandra is a key part of the holistic approach to patient wellness and recovery at Gateway's Carbondale treatment center. He helps individuals with co-occurring substance abuse issues, and address their underlying mental health difficulties. He treats people suffering with alcoholism or opiate dependency and is certified in the use of medication assisted treatment to manage withdrawal symptoms during the drug detoxification process.
He is a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Medical School of Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is the Psychiatrist at Shawnee Health Systems and was Medical Director at Lourdes Behavioral Health Center.
Dr. Chandra graduated from All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi India and served his internship at the University of Chicago. He completed his Psychiatric residency at John's Hopkins in Baltimore. He has a law degree and a masters in health law from Loyola University in Chicago. He is working towards board certification in addiction medicine.
