As Executive Director at Gateways Aurora center, Jim Scarpace prides himself on developing and operating programs that are evidence based and holistic in focus; empowering adults and teens treated at Gateway to be successful in recovery. Jim joined Gateway Foundation in 2007 as a Program Director, overseeing the clinical management team at the Aurora treatment center.

Jim's responsibilities include oversight of day to day operations at both the Aurora and Joliet centers. Jim is responsible for ensuring the treatment programs at our centers meet expectations in accordance with both regulation established by the Joint Commission and the Department of Alcohol and Substance Abuse(DASA).

Viewed as an expert in his field, Jim also teaches graduate classes in clinical and forensic psychology as an Assistant Professor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Jim earned his Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Illinois Benedictine University in Lisle.

Gateway Joliet

Craig Warner is a Graduate from Aurora University with Masters in Social Work and specialization in Medical Social Work and Addictions. His past work experience includes co-facilitating group treatment with adolescents diagnosed with Substance Use Disorders. Craig has additional experience working with clients diagnosed with a co-occurring disorder and demonstrated the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team to refer clients to appropriate levels of care.

Craig was previously a counselor at Gateway's Aurora facility providing evidence based treatment such as Mindfulness Based Sobriety, co-occurring education, and 12-Step Recovery. While working with Gateway Craig had managed the Level I and Aftercare treatment programs, providing clients with the treatment they need to achieve and sustain recovery.

Amber Konopa, LPC, CADC
Gateway Joliet

Amber Konopa has over 17 years of experience working with children and older adults who have substance use, co-occurring disorders, primary mental illness, developmental disabilities, as well as various cognitive disorders. Amber's clinical experience includes in-patient psychiatric units and outpatient programs. Amber believes in treating the mind, body and spirit through a multitude of techniques; creative expression, experiential, music, as well as education to reach each client's distinct needs.

Amber's philosophy is to assist clients to overcome obstacles by recognizing they have the key to their success and to see recovery as a journey. Amber creates a safe environment allowing for flexibility and empathy. Her unique, effective approach allows clients to learn resiliency, healthier ways to deal with life's challenges, how to ask for help, and feel hopeful towards the future.

Amber believes in partnership to accomplish goals and to remember while creating change...."Be the change you want to see in the world." - Mahatma Gandhi.

Amber earned her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Benedictine University.
