Karen Wolownik Albert is the Executive Director of Gateway Foundation's Lake County Treatment Services including a residential program in Lake Villa, and an outpatient program in Gurnee, Illinois. Ms. Wolownik Albert has over 20 years of behavioral health experience, and has worked in a variety of outpatient and residential settings throughout her career.
She earned her Bachelors of Science, and Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan, and is a licensed clinical social worker in Illinois. Ms. Wolownik Albert is an experienced trainer locally, and also presented at national conferences on a wide array of topics. She is on the Board of Directors of the Lake County Opioid Initiative, as well as a co-chair of the Treatment, Recovery and Harm Reduction Committee, and a core team member in the development of the A Way Out Program, a law assisted diversion program in Lake County.
Ms. Wolownik Albert is a member of the Lake County Underage Drinking and Drug Abuse Prevention Task Force and represented that organization at the national CADCA conference in 2017. She is also on the Steering Committee, and Treatment Committee Co-Chair for the Chicago Area Opioid Task Force. Additionally, Ms. Wolownik Albert is an adjunct professor at the College of Lake County, and has served on the curriculum committee for the Human Services program since 2011.
Dr. Mark Zissman is a licensed clinical psychologist and certified alcohol and drug counselor. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Northern Illinois University, and both his Masters in Counseling and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Adler University in Chicago, IL.
He has dedicated his career to specializing in the treatment of substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, in both youth and adult populations. Clinically, he believes each person he works with has unique strengths and motivations that can be utilized to affect change, and he is passionate about helping individuals find and nurture such characteristics in order to achieve personal success.
