Gateway Foundation Offers New Training Program to Address Dynamics of Domestic Violence

It is quite possible that you know someone who has survived domestic violence or have had individuals in abusive relationships come to you seeking help. Domestic violence is pervasive and life threatening and affects millions of individuals irregardless of their economic status, race, education or age.

"The training worked out great."

"I received several positive comments and I think the experience got us all to think about domestic violence in a way that moves far beyond the typical domestic violence conversation."

Employee Resource Systems, Inc.

Nearly one in every four women are beaten or sexually assaulted by a partner during adulthood. Recognizing an unmet need, Gateway Foundation Alcohol & Drug Treatment recently launched a new domestic violence training program called The Dynamics of Domestic Violence. Appropriate for all levels of clinicians, the training is designed to provide domestic violence education and allow clinicians to explore their own beliefs about this social issue and the question, "Why doesn't she leave?"

Gateway recently conducted an on-site domestic violence training for Chicago-based Employee Resource Systems, Inc., and the session was attended by social workers, MSWs, clinical directors and other licensed EAP professionals. Lead by Gateway expert trainer Jennifer Jenks, participants learned about power and control tactics in domestic violence, the cycle of violence, barriers to leaving and safety issues. An interactive activity invited all participants to break out into groups and examine their own beliefs about victims and offenders in domestic violence relationships. Participants walked away with resources to reinforce and support what they learned.

Training your staff to better understand the dynamics of domestic violence doesn't have to wait. Gateway's professional training programs are flexible and can offer training at your location for added convenience. Gateway offers educational training and training that provides CEUs to licensed professionals, such as LCSW, LCPC, CADC and LSW.
