Lou Douglas is committed to making a difference in people's lives in Central Illinois. He has spent the last 20 of his 30 years in the substance abuse field with Gateway Foundation. In his role at Gateway, Lou provides those in the community with a wide array of alcohol and drug-related education and treatment services. With his unique combination of experience and expertise, Lou conducts on-site substance abuse screenings and really takes the time to make sure individuals and their families thoroughly understand the treatment and recovery process. "I employ the roles of: counselor, teacher and consultant to assist each individual in learning the art and science of recovery."
Lou earned a Master's Degree in Child, Family, and Community Service (CFC) from the University of Illinois at Springfield. He is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CADC), a Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional (CCJP), board registered Mentally Ill Substance Abuse Counselor (MISA II), Gender Specific Endorsement (GSE), Adolescent Treatment Endorsement (ATE) and an approved service provider with The Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB).
Outreach Coordinator Jan Ruby enjoys seeing first-hand the positive impact Gateway Springfield Alcohol & Drug Treatment has on individuals and families. "I'll never forget when an alumnus went out of his way to pay the team at Gateway a visit to thank everyone for all they did to help him overcome substance abuse. The look of joy on his face was priceless," says Jan.
Committed to helping others in need, Jan dedicates his time to meeting new people every day and increasing awareness about substance abuse issues and treatment options on Gateway's behalf. He ensures Gateway is rooted in the community by cultivating relationships with professionals in medical, education, social services and legal as well as employee assistance at all types of local businesses. As experts in treating substance abuse, Jan ensures the resources and expertise at Gateway is leveraged by area organizations to help increase awareness about treatment and the variety of program options for drug and alcohol abuse offered at Gateway.
Earlier in his career, Jan served in the Navy as a counselor. He earned his BA in Management from the University of Illinois in Springfield, Ill. Outside of work Jan and his wife enjoy volunteering their time to various community programs.
