Matt Germann, Community Outreach Coordinator for Gateway Foundation Carbondale Alcohol & Drug Treatment, joined Gateway because he wanted to be a part of an organization whose mission is essential to the well-being of the community. "I'll always remember the first time I represented Gateway at a community event. An alumnus of Gateway went out of his way to meet me to share how thankful he was for Gateway and how the substance abuse treatment he experienced at Gateway changed his life for the better," recalls Matt.

To increase awareness of Gateway and its progressive treatment options, Matt engages with key business and organizational partners throughout the community. By forging strategic community partnerships, Gateway opens doors so individuals who need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse have access to invaluable support and quality care. "The most rewarding part of my job is knowing that each partnership I help establish increases the odds that more individuals struggling with substance abuse will get the help they deserve," says Matt.

Matt attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where he earned his MS in Rehabilitation Counseling and BA in Psychology. When Matt has free time, he enjoys spending it with his family, coaching youth sports and traveling.

"Having the access and knowledge base to sway adolescents from alcohol or drug use is the most rewarding part of my role at Gateway," says Gateway Foundation Carbondale Alcohol & Drug Treatment Community Outreach Coordinator Julie Rauch. "When teens know the facts and hear personal stories of how substance abuse has ruined individuals and hurt families, they become empowered to resist peer pressure and feel good about their healthy choices."

Julie's role at Gateway centers on building relationships with local businesses, medical providers, legal professionals, churches and school districts to convey the full continuum of care for substance abuse available at Gateway Carbondale. She also partners with organizations to offer education and awareness programs for members and employees in an effort to break down barriers for individuals who need treatment. "Gateway Carbondale has been providing a vital service to the Carbondale area for more than 40 years and it feels good to know the number of lives Gateway has touched," explains Julie.

Julie earned a BS in Business Management from Mid Continent University in Mayfield, Ky. In her free time, Julie enjoys waterskiing and capturing scenic photography.
