Frequently Asked Questions About
Gateway Alcohol and Drug Rehab

1. How do I know Gateway offers effective drug rehab and alcohol treatment programs?

Gateway Alcohol and Drug Rehab has been working with the most serious alcohol and drug problems for more than 40 years. It is the largest provider of drug rehab and alcohol treatment in Chicago, throughout the state of Illinois, and near St. Louis. Gateway Alcohol and Drug Rehab treats more than 29,000 people per year and is licensed by the state of Illinois.

Gateway Alcohol and Drug Rehab is also accredited by The Joint Commission, the leading accrediting organization for hospitals and other healthcare organizations.

2. Will he/she have to go and stay somewhere for drug rehab or alcohol rehab?

At Gateway Alcohol and Drug Rehab, we offer both After Work/After School outpatient treatment and residential programs. The process begins with a complete medical, psychological and social screening and substance abuse assessment to determine the type and extent of abuse, and any other related problems.

Based on these assessments, Gateway Alcohol and Drug Rehab will recommend an individualized drug rehab and alcohol treatment program. We’ll also help you determine the health insurance benefits available for drug rehab and alcohol treatment to your family member and any out-of-pocket expenses such as co-pays or deductibles.

Should a residential program be necessary at one of our drug rehabilitation centers, many of our previous clients have chosen to use their vacation time, sick time and work with their organization’s Employee Assistance Program or even take a medical leave of absence, also known as 'un-paid sick time.'

If you are a high school, college or university student requiring drug rehab and alcohol treatment, you can be excused from classes while maintaining your academic standing.

If you are a teen and require a residential program, you will attend classes at the rehabilitation center. The licensed teachers are provided through local area high schools.

3. Will my health insurance cover drug rehab and alcohol rehab?

The type of treatment Gateway recommends will be based on nationally recognized clinical criteria published by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).

After you take a free, confidential screening to assess the extent of drug rehab and alcohol treatment required, our clinical and financial experts will customize a drug rehab and alcohol treatment program that is both effective and affordable.

The duration of drug rehab and alcohol treatment is dependent on the extent of a person’s substance abuse problem and their dedication to recovery.
