Alcohol Addiction
Alcohol addiction is a medical condition when your body and mind become chemically dependent on alcohol. Alcohol is a sedative drug and can cause a drug addiction that can affect physical and mental health just as with any drug.
Studies show that having an alcohol addiction alters the way the brain performs. These transformations of the brain cause the abuser to crave alcohol beyond reason and beyond control. These intense physical and mental cravings make it extremely difficult, if not impossible in most cases, for a person with an alcohol problem to rehabilitate themselves without help.
Professional alcohol treatment enables a person with an alcohol problem to remove the chemical dependency on alcohol from the body and the brain, giving both the chance to heal.
Effects alcohol addiction can cause to mental health include:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Paranoia
- Rage in all forms: physical, verbal, emotional, psychological
- Diminished physical and verbal capacity
- Difficulties in problem-solving
- Anti-social behavior
- Inability to control emotions
- Inability to be responsible
- Careless endangerment of themselves or others
