Meet the Carbondale Drug Treatment Center Staff
Steve Wierman, MS, LCPC
Executive Director, Carbondale
Steve Wierman oversees daily operations of the Carbondale treatment center, including regulatory, clinical, outreach, as well as prevention education. However, he believes the most rewarding part of his job is watching individuals progress on the road to recovery and seeing his staff excel at changing the lives of so many people. He takes pride in seeing individuals graduate from Gateway's treatment programs, and later return to show how they have achieved and exceeded their recovery expectations.
Steve also oversees Carbondale's Short Term Residential Rehabilitation (STRR) unit. STRR focuses on a providing a unique combination of treatment elements that optimize the time spent in treatment. "Our goal is to help individuals get back on track in three to five weeks, so they can start living a better life and enjoying their family, friends and time in school."
Steve has been with Gateway for almost 15 years. Prior to that, he counseled adults and managed a program for Franklin/Williamson Human Services for six years. He also was a counselor for the Illinois Department of Corrections at Big Muddy Prison. Steve earned his BA in Psychology from The Ohio State University and his MS in Rehabilitation Counseling from Southern Illinois University.
When he's not at Gateway, he enjoys guitars, motorcycles, music, and cats.
