Located approximately 50 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Gateway's Lake Villa Treatment Center is situated on a beautiful 43-acre campus on the shores of the Fox Lake. The peaceful location offers the opportunity to pursue sobriety amid the serenity of a countryside atmosphere.

The campus features a wide array of healthy lifestyle activities as well as an indoor gym with weights and cardio equipment.

Gateway's Lake Villa Treatment Center offers high school programs for adolescents through Antioch High School. Individuals have the opportunity to gain credits and improve academically during their substance abuse treatment.

Meet the Lake Villa Staff

Patricia Ryding, Psy.D.
Executive Director
Gateway Lake Villa

Dr. Patricia RydingDr. Patricia Ryding finds numerous aspects of directing Gateway's Lake Villa treatment center rewarding. With a focus on restoring hope to people in treatment and their families, Dr. Ryding and her team are committed to providing the highest level of care for lasting recovery. "The professional team at Gateway Lake Villa and the quality care we provide helps save the lives of people who suffer from addiction."

Dr. Ryding's experience includes directing residential/inpatient programs, outpatient, day treatment and intensive outpatient programs. Through her vast experience, Dr. Ryding has not only worked closely with those with substance abuse issues, but also with families, adolescents and individuals with co-occurring disorders. As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, she brings a fully integrated approach to the substance abuse treatment programs for adults, teens and young men at the Lake Villa center.

Dr. Ryding holds a BA from Boston University as well as a MA in Counseling Psychology from Goddard College in Plainfield, VT. She also holds a Doctorate in Psychology from Carlos Albizu University in Miami, FL.


Christine De Vore, MA, CADC, MISA II
Family Therapist
Gateway Lake Villa

Family Therapist Christine De Vore has been a dedicated member of the clinical team at Gateway Lake Villa since 1995. To her, the most fulfilling aspects of her work are helping families communicate better and educating parents in the art of listening.

In her role, Christine works with families that have loved ones in Adolescent Residential Treatment Programs. She facilitates family counseling sessions, educates families about the disease of addiction and teaches family members coping skills to support their loved ones' recovery.

"I have always wanted to work with youth in the addiction field. I think youth provide the best opportunity for growth and change," says Christine.

Christine earned her Master's degree in Child, Family and Community from Sangamon State University in Springfield, IL.


Dianne Robinson, MSW, CRADC, MISA I
Clinical Supervisor
Gateway Lake Villa

Clinical Supervisor Dianne Robinson truly believes that everybody can change. She pursued her career in the substance abuse field to help people make the necessary changes to better their lives. "One of my favorite inspirational quotes is if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change," says Dianne.

Dianne oversees treatment program activities, operations and delivery of quality care services for women in treatment at Gateway's Lake Villa center. She also facilitates group therapy to help women learn from each other and improve social skills to promote their positive growth and change.

Dianne has been a member of Gateway's clinical team since 2001.


Le Ann Schmidt, RN
Nursing Supervisor
Gateway Lake Villa

Nursing Supervisor Le Ann Schmidt takes pride in ensuring the Nursing Department at Gateway Lake Villa is a place where people feel welcomed. In her role, Ms. Schmidt assists in conducting initial health screenings and assessments and shares information to aid in planning and evaluating care to meet individualized medical needs. She is a liaison with physicians, psychiatrists and other medical professionals to assure appropriate care is received by those in treatment.

Ms. Schmidt earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Phoenix and is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Public Health at Illinois Benedictine College.


Karen Wolownik Albert, LCSW
Program Director
Gateway Lake Villa

Karen Wolownik AlbertProgram Director Karen Wolownik Albert is continuously working to improve the treatment experience for individuals who come to Gateway's Lake Villa center. So much so that she established a Client Council where former clients voice what works well, areas to enhance and new ideas to consider.

Karen leads efforts related to the quality of care, program development and daily operations for the Adult Men's and Women's Residential Programs and the Young Men's Residential Bridge Program at the Lake Villa center.

"My most memorable experiences are attending the alumni events. It is wonderful to see alumni and hear stories of how they are thriving and giving back to others struggling with addiction," says Karen.

Karen has been a member of the clinical team at Gateway since 2010. She earned her B.S. and M.S.W. from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI.
