Nancy Connelly is a Clinical Supervisor at Gateway Aurora, where she has been dedicated to helping individuals with substance abuse issues since 2005. Her philosophy concerning treatment is nothing is impossible. "The very word says I'm possible!" says Nancy.
In her role, Nancy supervises the clinical team involved in providing individualized treatment, oversees program services and serves as a resource in identifying and resolving complex cases. She also leads and develops efforts that create a therapeutic environment to foster positive interactions with individuals in Residential Treatment.
"The most rewarding part of my job is helping people learn that by managing their mental health symptoms and staying clean and sober, they can lead active, fulfilling lives," explains Nancy.
As the Medical Director at Gateway Aurora, Dr. Anjali Gupta helps men and women in outpatient treatment address their addiction and mental health issues and transition to a lifestyle of recovery. She also oversees administration of medication assisted treatment as part of an integrated clinical approach for addiction to substances, such as alcohol, heroin and opiate prescription drugs.
"It is particularly rewarding to watch a person who thought it was impossible to make it through one day without using, dig deep into the issues causing one's compulsive drug use and evolve into a happier, more confident individual," explains Dr. Anjali Gupta.
Dr. Anjali Gupta is Board Certified in Addiction Medicine and conducts research for the Professionals Program at Resurrection Behavioral Health in Chicago. Her current research interests include understanding motivations for substance abuse as well as addiction treatment outcomes for medical professionals. She shared these research findings as a co-presenter at the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) 44th Annual Medical Scientific Conference in Chicago in April 2013.
Dr. Anjali Gupta received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry from Tri-State University in Angola, IN. She earned her Medical degree from Indiana University in Indianapolis, IN, and completed her residency at University of Chicago and William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI.
A licensed clinical psychologist, Program Director Greg Tierney empowers the Aurora clinical team to grow professionally and evolve treatment of substance abuse issues to benefit communities throughout Chicagoland and northern Illinois. He prides himself on fostering an atmosphere of emotional intelligence, one that's supportive of personal growth for the staff and the individuals in treatment.
"It's important for anyone who struggles with substance abuse issues to understand the role of emotion in their lives. Reason being, when we avoid emotion, we fail to motivate ourselves to accomplish goals. Or, when overcome by emotion, we tend to respond in ways that conflict with our values. That's why we encourage individuals to experience emotions in way that opens the door to acceptance rather than avoidance as well as healthier relationships," explains Greg.
Greg earned his doctor of philosophy in counseling psychology at University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D., his master's degree in community counseling at Loyola University in Chicago and his bachelor's degree in psychology at University of Illinois in Champaign, IL.
