Additional Programs
In addition to helping people in our community-based programs, Gateway's
Corrections Division operates 25 corrections-based programs and provides treatment to nearly 20,000 men and women including dually diagnosed substance abusers, every year. Gateway corrections-based drug rehab and alcohol treatment programs usually last six to 12 months and help people not only address their substance abuse problems but also help them change their basic criminal attitudes, values and behavior.
Gateway's Corrections Division works closely with the judicial system, probation officers and corrections departments to offer the most effective drug rehab and alcohol treatment for people whose substance abuse has led to legal troubles such as DUI's, and even more serious offenses and involvement in the criminal justice system.
In addition to providing substance abuse treatment services to individuals while they are incarcerated, Gateway Corrections assists individuals in gaining access to a full spectrum of services upon their release.
Outcome studies have repeatedly demonstrated that a continuum of care after release results in far better results (lower recidivism) than in-prison treatment alone.
In 2003, the State of Texas Criminal Justice Policy Council released a new outcome study showing reduced recidivism rates for inmates completing in-prison treatment, transitional residential care and outpatient aftercare. The survey showed a recidivism rate of 5% after two years compared with a national average of 52%. Gateway was the treatment provider for 80% of the sample research group. Gateway's Corrections Division has a long history of working with the difficult criminal justice population with outstanding results.
